Entrepreneur

I am an innovator and a successful entrepreneur. I have found in my life that the only good roadmap is one you create yourself. While there is room in academia and business for tradition, there also is plenty of space available to encourage discovery.

It was in Austin, Texas that I founded the first of several software companies, Execucom Systems Corporation. Execucom had become one of the country's largest and most successful software companies when it was acquired by GTE in 1984.

My work in Texas led me to become recognized as a founder of the Decision Support Systems (DSS) field. I also pioneered the field known as Group Decision Support Systems, and developed the first commercial products in the field (VisionQuest and WebIQ). Since Execucom, I have launched four other software companies, a PC clone company, and several businesses related to art and historical preservation. Much of my teaching and research has dealt with supporting executive minds with intuitive and easy to use software technology.

During this era I started three art galleries representing the same top southwest artists that were also found in Santa Fe, New Mexico's leading galleries. Other activities included authentically renovating 25 historic buildings many of which now comprise the Lower Colorado Conference Center in Bastrop, Texas near to Austin.
