Dr. Gerald R. Wagner
In the past years I've attended and presented at large ongoing professional conferences such as AMCIS and DSI. I will not do that in the future. They are a essentially a waste of University money and my time. Audience sizes for a session at such conferences are often 5-10 people. Most of those attending seldom provide useful connections so it is simply not worth the cost and effort.
In the future I will only attend conferences where my presentations are for large audiences and have a specific goal in mind that is aligned with my personal goals.
In April, 2009 I am a lead presenter at NETA (Nebraska Educational Technical Association). There is expected to be 70 people attending and many are potential connections for advancing my research described elsewhere. Also, in my opinion this is a conference that CIS&T teachers should attend. The high school teachers' are far ahead of University teachers in terms of the use of technology and the overall quality of teaching.
I have accepted an invitation to be involved in two presentations at ICDSS this summer in San Francisco, California (ICDSS is the International Conference on Decision Support Systems). One of my presentations is as a member of a panel on the history of DSS. The other is organizing and presenting on a panel about the future of DSS. The Who's Who of DSS will be at this special event conference. I am listed as one of the DSS Pioneers.
I have accepted an invitation as a Plenary Keynote Speaker of WMSCI 2009 (Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics), Orlando, Florida. This will have an audience of about 500 people. Most are academic from several countries. Many could be prospects to adopt my course on Applied Consulting Using Simulation Modeling and Visualization.
I am co-authoring a book with Dr. Paul Gray, Claremont University, on Simulation Modeling and Visualization.
I am contributing to a new edition of Ephraim Turbin's book on Business Intelligence.
Both Dr. Gray and Dr. Turbin are both known as international leading authors of textbooks for teaching Business Intelligence and Decision Support Systems.
